Please join me, challenging yourself with this 7 hours hiking event to see the most beautiful fall within 1 hour of driving distance from SV at Feb 8th: Berry Creek Fall at Big Basin Redwood Forest.

The 7 hours include 30m pitching session at Berry’s fall and 45 minutes lunch break. This will be the longest hiking event I organized. So please do join me if you exercise or hike regularly.

Overview: Redwoods and waterfalls make this the best hike in the San Francisco Bay Area.

If you’re up for 11 miles and a thousand feet of elevation gain spread out over a half-day, you’ll be amazed to see the strain melt away in this land of the giants.

Veteran Berry Creek Falls hikers recommend a counter-clockwise loop starting on the Sunset Trail, turning left on to the Berry Creek Falls Trail, taking another left onto the Skyline-to-the-Sea trail, which returns to the trailhead.

When to go: This hike can be done in almost any weather. Winter rains bring greater flow to the falls, but the shorter days create a greater risk of running out of daylight.

Tips: Buy a map at the park HQ – it’s easy to get lost at Big Basin without one.

Bring your lunch, and enough water,

Superlatives define Big Basin Redwoods State Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains. California’s oldest state park – covering more than 18,000 acres from sea level to more than 2,000 feet elevation – launched the state park movement in California. Big Basin’s biggest attraction – literally – is a rare stand of awe-inspiring, ancient coast redwoods that are among the tallest and oldest trees on Earth. Some measure close to 300 feet tall and 50 feet in circumference. Scientists estimate that these trees may range from 1,000 to 2,000 years old.

Spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, lush waterfalls, more than 80 miles of roads and trails, and a fascinating natural and cultural history have beckoned millions of visitors to Big Basin since 1902.
This is a community event. Hiking at your own risk. This hiking is not for beginners and people who rarely exercise.
